Brief
A fintech startup building a cash flow management platform for small business owners needed a complete product built from scratch, including bank integrations, invoice automation, and predictive analytics, shipped in time for a scheduled investor demo.
Background
The founder had deep domain expertise in financial operations but had already lost two months to a failed agency engagement that delivered nothing usable. They came to us with a partially written spec and a hard deadline. The product needed to connect with business bank accounts, auto-categorize transactions, generate payment schedules, and surface cash flow forecasts using historical data. Security, compliance readiness, and clean UI were non-negotiable requirements for the target market of accountants and business owners.
Challenges
Financial data integrations are notoriously complex. Syncing transactions reliably, handling edge cases in categorization, and making forecasting feel accurate rather than approximate required tight iteration. We had to balance technical depth with a UI simple enough that non-technical business owners could act on insights daily. Rebuilding trust after the client's previous failed engagement also meant we needed to show visible, working progress every single week.
Outcome
The MVP was ready in seven weeks. The platform connected to major Canadian and US banking providers, processed invoices automatically with over 90 percent categorization accuracy, and generated 30 and 90-day cash flow projections with a clear confidence indicator. The client walked into their investor demo with a live, working product and closed a pre-seed round shortly after. They later scaled the engineering team incrementally using the same codebase without any structural rework.
